Artist Bio
Robyn Mattis resides in Woodinville Washington among the beautiful fir
trees with her husband and her British Cream Golden Retriever. She has
always loved art and art history. Art Museums are places of wonder and
magic for her. While raising her children, she attended many art classes
at Gage Academy. When the empty nest phase began, she decided to
dive into her art journey by joining an Atelier Program at Gage. Then
the pandemic started and she moved in a new direction and began to
seriously study portraiture and still life. She has been studying at the
New York Academy of Art on-line to learn the oil painting techniques of
the Dutch and Renaissance masters.
Artist Statement
βArt is something which, although produced by human hands, is not
created by these hands alone, but something which wells up from a
deeper source in our souls.β
- Vincent Van Gogh
Spiritual images have served as signs and symbols pointing to another
reality and to a state of higher consciousness. In my art practice, I paint
portraits that express the soul nature of a person behind the physical
appearance. My still life paintings manifest the longing for our own
divine nature through symbolic imagery. These images are from Eastern
and Western traditions and are spiritual but not religious. I believe that
Art objects can uplift and heal us along with showing us the beauty of
our humanity.
